Happy people can be unhappy too
I read somewhere,
that laughter is the cure,
for all ailments ,
yet I was unsure.
Because, you see…
The saddest people around me smile the most.
Their laughter sounds the loudest.
And their giggles are the funniest.
You can never tell how sad they actually are,
or that they faced some turmoil too…
Till you hear the news come up,
that they are no more with you.
My best friend was a funny girl,
whose smile always reached up to
brighten her lively eyes
and to bring a crinkle on her nose.
The last time I saw her smile
was a day before she hung herself from her room
and it’s been a while
but I realise that she had her demons too.
I could never believe the pains she hid
in those yellow pages of her diary
Because what I knew of her
was quite contrary to actuality.
But then, not all of us reveal
our demons, do they?
And if being happy and cheerful was
the only cure
Then all the patients would laugh their
way out of illness for sure.
I’ve seen those broken souls
Who empathize with others around them…
Who understand everyone the most…
Even if they are the most misunderstood.
Because all that glitters is not gold,
and these sayings never turn old.
Because all that seems is not true
and happy people may be really unhappy too.
So, before you think that a cheerful face
is a hint of being happy, think twice,
because guess what
that criteria does not suffice.
